  • Efficiency: 65% natural gas, 66% propane (EnerGuide).
  • Viewing Area: 26½" wide
  • Fuel: Natural gas or propane.

  • Fan: Optional

Who It's For

The usual gas fireplace moves its heat with a blower, so the warmth stops the moment the power does—and the fan hums under every conversation. You need a fireplace that warms you, not just the air. If you want a traditional log fire that holds the room quietly and keeps heating through a power outage, that's the Valor Horizon. A fan-driven unit will keep you warm too; this one does it silently, with nothing to plug in.

What Makes It Special

The Horizon is built around radiant heat. Its stainless steel burner, ceramic glass, and low-mass logs absorb the fire's heat and send it straight into the room, the way the sun warms your face. Valor rates this radiant zone heating at up to 25% more efficient than central forced air.

Here's the part most fireplaces can't match: the Horizon runs on four AA batteries as its primary power source, not a backup. There's no cord, nothing added to your power bill, and when the lights go out the fire lights and heats like it's any other evening. A built-in secondary heat exchanger moves warm air through the room by natural convection, so there's no blower noise unless you choose to add the optional fan.

It's also rated for outdoor use under a covered patio, so the same fireplace can warm the space just outside the back door.

Possible Downsides

  • The circulating fan is optional, so out of the box the Horizon heats by radiance and natural convection alone.
  • Log fire beds only—birch, driftwood, or traditional; there is no contemporary glass or stone media option.
  • Thermostatic control is an optional upgrade; the included remote handles everyday operation.

If you want a fire you can feel from the couch—on an ordinary evening or in the middle of an outage—the Horizon is the right decision. The room with the fire becomes the room the house lives in.

The Horizon takes five fronts—matte black, cast iron, Clearview, FenderFire double doors, and a pewter landscape surround—plus contour trims, frets, a fluted black or red brick liner, and birch, driftwood, or traditional log sets, so it can match the room you already have.
