Who It's For
Some rooms don't have the wall for a full-size fireplace—the den, the bedroom, the sitting room off the kitchen—and a bigger unit would cook you out of them anyway. You need a fireplace sized for the room you actually have. If you're building or remodeling and want real gas heat in a smaller space, quietly and without a blower droning under the fire, the Valor Portrait is the one built for that job. It installs into a framed wall during construction or a remodel, so plan on finish work around it. Pick an oversized unit instead and you'll run it on low all winter, paying for heat the room can't use.
What Makes It Special
The Portrait circulates warm air through natural convection—no blower needed—while radiant heat comes through the ceramic glass the way the sun warms your face. The loudest thing in the room stays the conversation, not a fan motor cycling under the flames.
Here's the real game-changer: the Portrait runs on four AA batteries as its primary power, not as a backup. When an outage takes the furnace down, this fireplace keeps making heat with the power out—nothing to plug in, nothing to reset.
Possible Downsides
- The fire is compact by design—a window about 16¾" wide. If you want a taller view in a similar footprint, look at the Valor P2.
- The fan is optional, not included, and the fan needs electricity; the fireplace itself does not.
- There's no option to keep the wall above cool for a TV—Valor offers that (HeatShift) on the P2 instead.
If you've been told your room is too small for a real fireplace, the Portrait is the right decision. The little room everyone used to skip becomes the one everyone ends up in.
The Portrait takes seven front styles—Windsor Arch in black or chrome, President, Senator, Clearview, Ledgeview, and Ledge—plus your choice of birch, driftwood, traditional log, or coal fire beds and fluted black, red brick, or reflective glass liners, so the look matches the room you already have.

Can you get an instant online estimate for the Valor Portrait Fireplace?
Yes—right on this page. Configure the Valor Portrait Fireplace and get a free, no-obligation instant estimate covering the unit as configured, a fitting vent kit, and professional installation labor. No phone call required.
What's included in the online estimate?
The unit with the options you selected, a real vent kit matched to your venting, and the installation labor for a typical setup. Your free one-to-two-hour in-home visit confirms every detail before anything is ordered.
Who pulls the permit?
We do, on every job, in every jurisdiction we serve—and we meet the inspector. It's built into the process, not an upsell.
Can you see the Valor Portrait Fireplace in a photo of your own room?
Yes. The Visualizer tab on this page renders the Valor Portrait Fireplace into a straight-on photo of your wall, scaled to the room, so you see it in your space before you price a thing. Phone photos are fine. It's a faithful preview, not an architectural drawing; sizing, venting, and trim get confirmed at the free in-home visit.
Is the online estimate real, or a rough guess?
Real, and honest about what it is: a price for the Valor Portrait Fireplace as configured, a fitting vent kit, and professional installation labor, built from real Seattle installs. It is not binding. The free one-to-two-hour in-home visit checks your actual house before the price is final, and nothing is ordered until then.
Do you install and service the Valor Portrait Fireplace yourselves?
Yes, both. Our own in-house installers set the Valor Portrait Fireplace, run the venting and the gas, pull the permit, and light the first fire before leaving. Afterward the service desk looks after every unit that came from Sutter, with factory-trained technicians and a real date when you call.
