An arched fire that looks like it came with the house.

Quick Facts

  • Heating Capacity: Approx. 900–1,750 sq ft
  • Efficiency: 76% (steady state)
  • Viewing Area: 455 sq in
  • Fuel: Natural gas; propane conversion kit available.
  • Controls: Handheld remote with thermostat; wall thermostat optional.

Who It's For

A traditional home with wood trim and a real mantel can be let down by a square, modern-looking gas fireplace. You need a fire whose shape belongs with the room. If you want an arched opening, optional double screen doors, and a log set that looks hand-finished, the Excalibur P90 is the one. Put a rectangular contemporary unit in that room and the fireplace argues with everything around it.

What Makes It Special

The Excalibur's arched surround and black double doors give it the proportions of a masonry fireplace, and inside, hand-painted logs over glowing embers sit against rustic brown, old town red, or herringbone brick.

It is also the most efficient of Regency's traditional gas fireplaces at 76 percent, so more of the gas you pay for ends up as heat in the room. The burner lights only when you turn it on, and the Heat Wave duct option can push warm air into the next room.

Possible Downsides

  • Traditional styling only; there is no clean-front, crystal, or contemporary version of this fireplace.
  • Brick interiors only; no reflective glass or enamel panel is offered.

If your home is traditional and the fireplace should look like it has always been there, the Excalibur P90 is the right decision. The living room finally has the hearth the house was built around.

The P90 offers a black arch surround, black double doors, brick panels in rustic brown, old town red, or herringbone, an ember upgrade, basic or programmable wall thermostats, and the Heat Wave duct.
