Who It's For

Very large open spaces need a divider with real presence, or the fire disappears in the room. You need the longest fire in the line. If you want about 80 inches of fire as the spine of a large open plan, the Space Creator 200 is the longest. The 150 suits a smaller great room.

What Makes It Special

The 200 stretches the Space Creator to 80 1/8 inches of fire, with the largest burner in the line, so from either side of the divider the flame reads as a long linear fire.

Nothing frames the opening but your own finish, and because of Ortal's passive cool wall, the wall above stays open for a TV or artwork. Expect it to warm roughly 1,300 to 2,550 square feet, our estimate from Ortal's gas input.

Choose between a protective mesh screen and double glass; the double glass uses quiet fans between the panes so the front stays cooler to the touch. Skip the lighting and use the screen, and batteries alone can run it—it still lights when the power is out. Pick a temperature on the remote that comes with it, and the fire turns itself up and down to hold it.

Possible Downsides

• The double-glass version needs household power and won't run during an outage.
• Its double-glass version sits on taller legs (11 7/16 inches), which your installer plans into the build; in a smaller room, the Space Creator 150 is plenty.
• Natural gas is the factory setup; switching to propane means an Ortal conversion kit and an authorized technician.

If you want the longest see-through divider fire Ortal makes, the Space Creator 200 is the right decision. The open plan gets a fire as big as the room.

Choose a mesh screen or double glass and an included log set—standard, driftwood, clay, or English—or a bonfire, campfire, aspen, or branch upgrade, and add a black reflective interior if you like.
