A small four-sided fire you can walk around.
Quick Facts
- Heating Capacity: 750–1,450 sq ft
- Fuel: Natural gas; propane with a conversion kit.
- Controls: Remote with thermostat included; wall switch and phone app available.
Who It's For
In a room arranged around a center rather than a wall, any wall-mounted fireplace puts some seats on the wrong side. You need a fire with no back. If your room is moderate in size and you want a compact island fire in the middle of it, the Island 70 is the smaller of the two. The 130 is long enough for a large open room.
What Makes It Special
Glass on all four sides puts the fire in the middle of the room, the way a campfire sits in the middle of a circle. The 70 is the compact, roughly 20-inch island, set up with or without a flat hood and base, and a decorative hood is available.
Our estimate from Ortal's gas input puts its reach at roughly 750 to 1,450 square feet.
Double glass is the heat barrier: quiet fans move room air between the panes, so the outer glass stays far cooler than the fire side. Set a temperature on the included remote and it holds the room there on its own.
Possible Downsides
- There's no fire during a power outage: double-glass units run on the plug-in adapter.
- It's the smaller island; for a long fire in a big open room, the Island 130 is the one.
- Natural gas is the factory setup; switching to propane means an Ortal conversion kit and an authorized technician.
If you want a compact fire at the center of the room, the Island 70 is the right decision. Every chair in the room becomes a good seat.
Configure it with an included log set—standard, driftwood, clay, or English—or a bonfire, campfire, aspen, or branch upgrade.
