A long four-sided island fire for a big open room.
Quick Facts
- Heating Capacity: 950–1,850 sq ft
- Fuel: Natural gas; propane with a conversion kit.
- Controls: Remote with thermostat included; wall switch and phone app available.
Who It's For
A large open room—a great room, a lodge-style living space—needs a center, and a small fire gets lost in it. You need a long fire you can see from every side. If you want the fire to run down the middle of a big room, the Island 130 is the long island. The 70 is the better scale for a moderate room.
What Makes It Special
The 130 stretches the island to about 51 inches of fire behind glass on all four sides, so people on the long sides see a full linear flame and people at the ends see its depth. It comes with or without a flat hood and base, and a decorative hood is available.
By our math on Ortal's gas input, it's sized to warm approximately 950 to 1,850 square feet.
It comes with double glass, and fans between the two panes keep the outer surface much cooler than the glass facing the fire. The included remote has a thermostat mode, so you set a temperature and it manages the flame.
Possible Downsides
- It needs household power; double-glass units won't operate during a power outage.
- It needs a large room to make sense; in a smaller space, the Island 70 keeps the four-sided view at a compact size.
- It ships set up for natural gas; propane takes a conversion kit installed by an Ortal-authorized technician.
If you want a long fire at the center of a big open room, the Island 130 is the right decision. The middle of the great room becomes the place everyone ends up.
Make it yours with any of the five included log sets, with bonfire, campfire, aspen, and branch sets as upgrades.
