Long driftwood logs and more heat on a five-foot fire.

Quick Facts

  • Heating Capacity: 1,300–2,600 sq ft
  • Viewing Area: 60 1/8" wide
  • Fuel: Natural gas or propane.
  • Controls: Remote with thermostat included; wall switch and phone app available.

Who It's For

If the fire has to warm a big room as well as look good, the standard logs on a five-foot Wilderness won't stretch far enough. You need the bigger burner. If you want long driftwood logs across 60 1/8 inches, with tall or extra-tall glass, the Wilderness Front Facing 60H with long logs is the warmer version.

What Makes It Special

The long-log 60H runs Ortal's optional Driftwood 100-3 burner—three long logs that span the firebox—so the fire looks fuller and reaches about 1,300 to 2,600 square feet by our estimate.

Frameless edges let the wall finish run straight to the flame, and passive cool wall technology keeps the wall over the fire usable for a TV or art.

Choose between a protective mesh screen and double glass; the double glass uses quiet fans between the panes so the front stays cooler to the touch. Pick a temperature on the remote that comes with it, and the fire turns itself up and down to hold it.

Possible Downsides

  • The double-glass version needs household power and won't run during an outage.
  • Long driftwood is the only log style on this burner; for valley oak or birch, the standard-log Wilderness Front Facing 60H.

If you want a five-foot log fire that really warms a great room, the Wilderness Front Facing 60H with long logs is the right decision. The great room is warm by the time the fire looks settled.

Choose a mesh screen or double glass with glass 21 5/8" or 29 1/2" tall and the long driftwood log set.
