Five feet of Wilderness log fire, standard glass.

Quick Facts

  • Viewing Area: 60 1/8" wide
  • Fuel: Natural gas or propane.
  • Controls: Remote with thermostat included; wall switch and phone app available.

Who It's For

A great-room wall needs a long fire, and you still want it to look like wood. You need five feet of logs. If you want the Wilderness standard logs across a 60 1/8-inch opening behind low glass, the Wilderness Front Facing 60 is that fire.

What Makes It Special

The 60 uses the standard three-log Wilderness burner—driftwood, valley oak, or birch—across five feet, so the fire looks long without changing the log style.

There's no metal border to design around—finish runs to the glass—and the cool-wall design keeps the surface above calm enough for a TV or art directly overhead. Working from Ortal's published gas input, we estimate it warms approximately 800 to 1,600 square feet.

You pick the barrier: a fine protective mesh screen, or double glass with quiet fans moving room air between the panes to keep the outer glass cooler. Run it with the screen and no interior lighting and it works on batteries, so it still lights in a power outage. The included remote has a thermostat mode, so you set a temperature and it manages the flame.

Possible Downsides

  • The double-glass version needs household power and won't run during an outage.
  • The standard logs share their burner with the 44 and 51, so the warmth doesn't grow with the width; for more heat, the Wilderness Front Facing 60H with long logs is the step up.

If you want five feet of log fire behind low glass, the Wilderness Front Facing 60 is the right decision. The long wall gets a fire that looks laid, not lined up.

Make it yours with a mesh screen or double glass and driftwood, valley oak, or birch logs.
