Who It's For
Some walls are designed as the main attraction, and a fire that's long but short doesn't carry them. You need a fire that's big in both directions. If you want about 77 inches across and 29 1/2 inches tall, the Front Facing 77HH is the extra-tall version. The 77 and 77H are lower.
What Makes It Special
The 77HH puts a 77 1/8-inch-wide, nearly 30-inch-tall opening on the 160 burner, double glass only, so the fire reads as a wall of flame.
There's no metal border to design around—finish runs to the glass—and the cool-wall design keeps the surface above calm enough for a TV or art directly overhead. Working from Ortal's published gas input, we estimate it warms approximately 1,300 to 2,550 square feet.
The front is double glass, cooled by fans that move room air between the panes. The included remote has a thermostat mode, so you set a temperature and it manages the flame.
Possible Downsides
- It needs household power; tall-glass models come with interior lighting, and double-glass units won't operate during a power outage.
- Double glass is the only barrier; for a protective screen on a long, tall fire, the Front Facing 77H offers one.
- Propane needs a conversion kit, fitted by an Ortal-authorized technician; it arrives set up for natural gas.
If you want a long fire that's also tall, the Front Facing 77HH is the right decision. The feature wall becomes a wall of fire.
Make it yours with one of five included log sets or an upgrade like bonfire, aspen, or charred branches, and add a black reflective interior if you like.
