A 44-inch fire behind glass nearly 30 inches tall.
Quick Facts
- Heating Capacity: 950–1,850 sq ft
- Viewing Area: 43 5/16" wide
- Fuel: Natural gas; propane with a conversion kit.
- Controls: Remote with thermostat included; wall switch and phone app available.
Who It's For
When you want the fire to feel like a window rather than a strip, height matters more than width. You need tall glass at a living-room width. If you want an opening about 43 inches wide and 29 1/2 inches tall, the Front Facing 44HH is the tallest of the 44 family. The 44 and 44H keep the flame lower.
What Makes It Special
The HH models are Ortal's extra-tall versions, and they're double glass only, so fans between the panes keep the outer glass cooler while the opening stays almost square.
Frameless edges let the wall finish run straight to the flame, and passive cool wall technology keeps the wall over the fire usable for a TV or art. By our math on Ortal's gas input, it's sized to warm approximately 950 to 1,850 square feet.
Pick a temperature on the remote that comes with it, and the fire turns itself up and down to hold it.
Possible Downsides
- It needs household power; tall-glass models come with interior lighting, and double-glass units won't operate during a power outage.
- Double glass is the only barrier; if you want a protective mesh screen, the Front Facing 44H offers one at 21 5/8 inches tall.
- It ships set up for natural gas; propane takes a conversion kit installed by an Ortal-authorized technician.
If you want a tall, window-like fire at living-room width, the Front Facing 44HH is the right decision. The fire becomes the view in the room.
Choose any of the five included log sets, with bonfire, campfire, aspen, and branch sets as upgrades, and add a black reflective interior if you like.
