Who It's For
When the fire stands in the open, every side is the front. A unit with a back turns one side of the room into the wrong side. You need glass all the way around. If you want a sculptural fire that shows from anywhere in the room, the Curve 360 is the see-through curve. The 270 is meant for a spot near a wall.
What Makes It Special
The 360 is a curved see-through: double glass wraps the fire on every side. Configure it with or without a base, with a flat hood, or with Ortal's decorative Bordelet hood; extension pipes reach a taller ceiling.
By our math on Ortal's gas input, it's sized to warm approximately 850 to 1,650 square feet.
It comes with double glass, and fans between the two panes keep the outer surface much cooler than the glass facing the fire. The included remote has a thermostat mode, so you set a temperature and it manages the flame.
Possible Downsides
- It needs household power; double-glass units won't operate during a power outage.
- It's built to stand out in the open; for a curved fire that backs up to a wall, the Curve 270 is the better fit.
- It ships set up for natural gas; propane takes a conversion kit installed by an Ortal-authorized technician.
