Who It's For

A grand room needs a fireplace with presence. You want an arched opening that commands the space. The Mendota M50 Greenbriar is made for that. Settle for a basic box and the fire never becomes the room's focal point.

What Makes It Special

The Greenbriar's dramatic Georgian arch and impressive size are made for grand rooms, and Mendota describes its heat output as infinitely adjustable.

Dual blowers come standard to circulate the heat, and the burner and flame height keep working in a power outage.

In a power outage the burner and flame height keep working; the fans wait for the power to return. Mendota builds its fireplaces from heavy-gauge steel with full-seam welding and careful hand assembly in America's heartland.

Possible Downsides

  • The decorative front is sold separately. Pick one of Mendota's fronts or door sets to finish it.
  • The fans need power. In an outage the burner and flame height work, but the fans do not.

If you want a fireplace that becomes the center of the room, the Mendota M50 Greenbriar is the right decision. The room fills with warmth and everyone ends up gathered by the fire.

Choose a front, door set, overlay, and liner such as firebrick, herringbone, or tile. Ask about the Mendota Cool Wall, Versiheat, and FlexHeat kits, which move heat away from the wall or to another room.
