Who It's For

Some of the best spots for a fire are too narrow for a fireplace. You want one that fits at eye level in a kitchen or bath. The Mendota M27 Chelsea is made for that. Settle for a basic box and the fire never becomes the room's focal point.

What Makes It Special

Mendota says the Chelsea's narrow form lets you place it at eye level in a kitchen or bath, or use it as a traditional fireplace in a cozy bedroom or living space.

Its flame height adjusts down to a gentle fire, and dual blowers come standard to move the warmth into the room.

In a power outage the burner and flame height keep working; the fans wait for the power to return. Mendota builds its fireplaces from heavy-gauge steel with full-seam welding and careful hand assembly in America's heartland.

Possible Downsides

  • The decorative front is sold separately. Pick one of Mendota's fronts or door sets to finish it.
  • The fans need power. In an outage the burner and flame height work, but the fans do not.

If you want a fireplace that becomes the center of the room, the Mendota M27 Chelsea is the right decision. The room fills with warmth and everyone ends up gathered by the fire.

Choose a front, door set, overlay, and liner such as firebrick, herringbone, or tile.
