The classic Mendota DXV log fire with simple, manual controls.
Quick Facts
- Fuel: Natural gas or propane.
- Controls: Flame-height knob.
- Fan: Included.
Who It's For
Some people want a traditional log fire without electronics to manage. You want a classic fireplace that keeps it simple. The Mendota DXV35 Timberfire is made for that. Settle for a basic box and the fire never becomes the room's focal point.
What Makes It Special
Each DXV fireplace is handcrafted. The DXV line has won Best of Show at the National Hearth Products Association Expo and was listed as a Best Buy value by Consumers Digest.
Mendota's DXV logs are molded from real field logs and hand-painted in eight colors to look like a wood fire at its best. The burner lights by manual ignition, and a flame-height knob sets the fire.
In a power outage the burner and flame height still work, in cycles of one hour on and one hour off. Mendota builds its fireplaces from heavy-gauge steel with full-seam welding and careful hand assembly in America's heartland.
Possible Downsides
- Manual controls. It lights by manual ignition and the flame is set with a knob.
- Limited use in an outage. Without power, Mendota allows one hour on, one hour off.
- The decorative front is sold separately. Pick one of Mendota's fronts or door sets to finish it.
If you want a fireplace that becomes the center of the room, the Mendota DXV35 Timberfire is the right decision. The room fills with warmth and everyone ends up gathered by the fire.
Choose a front or door set such as Prairie, Bentley, Grace, Tuscany, Millennia, Deerfield, or Andover (not every front fits every model). Ask about the Mendota Cool Wall, Versiheat, and FlexHeat kits, which move heat away from the wall or to another room.

Can you get an instant online estimate for the Mendota DXV35 Timberfire?
Yes—right on this page. Configure the Mendota DXV35 Timberfire and get a free, no-obligation instant estimate covering the unit as configured, a fitting vent kit, and professional installation labor. No phone call required.
What's included in the online estimate?
The unit with the options you selected, a real vent kit matched to your venting, and the installation labor for a typical setup. Your free one-to-two-hour in-home visit confirms every detail before anything is ordered.
Who pulls the permit?
We do, on every job, in every jurisdiction we serve—and we meet the inspector. It's built into the process, not an upsell.
Can you see the Mendota DXV35 Timberfire in a photo of your own room?
Yes. The Visualizer tab on this page renders the Mendota DXV35 Timberfire into a straight-on photo of your wall, scaled to the room, so you see it in your space before you price a thing. Phone photos are fine. It's a faithful preview, not an architectural drawing; sizing, venting, and trim get confirmed at the free in-home visit.
Is the online estimate real, or a rough guess?
Real, and honest about what it is: a price for the Mendota DXV35 Timberfire as configured, a fitting vent kit, and professional installation labor, built from real Seattle installs. It is not binding. The free one-to-two-hour in-home visit checks your actual house before the price is final, and nothing is ordered until then.
Do you install and service the Mendota DXV35 Timberfire yourselves?
Yes, both. Our own in-house installers set the Mendota DXV35 Timberfire, run the venting and the gas, pull the permit, and light the first fire before leaving. Afterward the service desk looks after every unit that came from Sutter, with factory-trained technicians and a real date when you call.
