The warmth and presence of a wood stove, without the wood.

Who It's For

A freestanding stove warms a room like nothing else—but a wood stove asks for hauling, splitting, tending, and sweeping, and some winters the fire burns less often than you'd like. You need the heat and look of a stove without the work of wood. If you're replacing an old wood stove, or warming a snug corner, a cabin, or the room the furnace never quite reaches, the Valor Madrona is the one. Keep feeding the old stove and the warmth depends on whoever's willing to tend it; choose the Madrona and the same corner is warm at the push of a button.

What Makes It Special

The Madrona heats two ways at once. The fire radiates warmth into the room—the way the sun warms your face—while a built-in secondary heat exchanger draws cooler air in and sends warmed air back out naturally, no fan required. The stove works in silence; the room just gets warm.

Here's the part that matters in a storm: the Madrona runs on four AA batteries as its primary power, so it keeps making heat when the power goes out. When the cold eases, turn the fire down to a glow for a fall evening instead of shutting it off. And if the stove sits unused for seven days, the pilot shuts itself off, so no gas burns between fires.

Possible Downsides

  • The circulating fan is optional, not included. The fan also needs household power to run; the radiant heat does not.
  • Fire beds are logs only—Traditional, Driftwood, or Birch. For a coal or rock fire bed, look at the President.

If you want the warmth of a freestanding stove without the work of wood, the Madrona is the right decision. The room the stove sits in becomes the room everyone ends up in.

The Madrona comes as a Traditional cast iron body in Black or Majolica brown with an arched or square front, or as a Modern body with Almond White, Pewter, or Black steel sides—finished with your choice of Traditional, Driftwood, or Birch logs.
