Who It's For
A bedroom, office, or condo living room has no chimney and no gas line, and the plug-in electric fireplaces that fit tend to look like a screensaver in a box. You need an electric fire that is convincing up close. If you want a slim, fully recessed fire with logs that glow and an ember bed you can color to the room, in a space where gas was never an option, the Studio 40-inch is the one. A portable electric unit warms the same room and looks like what it is.
What Makes It Special
The Studio's split oak logs glow in sections when the flames and ember bed are on, the way real logs do, and the Chromalight up-lighting under the fuel bed can stay a natural amber or shift to a range of colors to suit the room.
Three flame combinations run from a bright fire that lights a dark room to a quiet background glow, and the heater with its blower is there when you want it or off when you only want the picture. The whole unit recesses into the wall with a slim trim.
Possible Downsides
- Supplemental heat for one room, not a furnace; it takes the chill off a bedroom or office rather than heating a floor.
- No app control on the Studio line; the Onyx and Avita add phone control.
- Single-sided only; for a corner or three-sided view, see the Skope or Onyx.
If your room has an outlet and no chimney and you still want a fire worth looking at, the Studio 40-inch is the right decision. The bedroom gets the fire you assumed only the living room could have.
