Who It's For

There's a fireplace in the room already—it just doesn't get lit, because a real fire means hauling wood, tending flames, and cleaning up after. You need a fire that turns on as easily as a lamp and still looks like a fire. If you want to put an old wood or gas fireplace back to work, or add a fire to a renovation where running gas isn't practical, the Valor GE3 is the one. Most electric fires give themselves away at a glance; this one is built not to.

What Makes It Special

The difference is what's behind the glass. Valor's high-definition log sets—exclusive to North America—come in Birch, Driftwood, or Splitwood, set against a black reflective panel that gives the flames real depth. The glass itself is non-reflective, so you see the fire, not your lamp bounced back at you.

Everything adjusts from the couch: three flame colors, five flame speeds, five fire-bed brightness settings, and eight ambient light settings, plus a choice of two crackling-wood sounds if you want the ear convinced along with the eye. The remote or the free app also runs the heat on a daily or seven-day timer, so the room is warm when you walk in, not twenty minutes after.

Possible Downsides

  • The 2800W heat setting must be hard-wired by an electrician. On a standard outlet it runs at 1400W.
  • A front with a backing plate or shroud kit is required to finish the install. The frameless Clean Install Kit is made only for the larger GE4.
  • It warms the room it's in, not the rooms beyond it. If you need whole-house heat, this is the ambiance and comfort layer, not the furnace.

If you want a fireplace that looks real and runs on a remote instead of a wood pile, the GE3 is the right decision. The room with the cold fireplace becomes the room everyone ends up in.

The GE3 takes Birch, Driftwood, or Splitwood log sets, a Clearview Vintage Iron or Edgemont Pewter front with a matching backing plate or shroud kit, riser and base trim kits, and an optional mood-lighting LED strip, so it can match the room you already have.
