Who It's For

A small traditional fireplace in a room you have made modern can look like the one thing you forgot to update. You need an insert that changes the fire itself, not just the frame. If you want crystals, stones, or a driftwood set glowing in a compact opening, the Horizon HRi3 is the one. A log insert keeps the room traditional whether you want it or not.

What Makes It Special

The HRi3 is a contemporary fire bed in a compact insert: black, copper, or starfire crystals, firebeads in black, caramel, or glacier ice, spa stones, volcanic stones, or river pebbles, with a ceramic driftwood set if you want wood in the picture, all against black enamel reflective panels that double the flame.

It carries the same radiant plus convective heating as the Liberty Radiant line, so the heat is felt directly and spread by the included fan, and it keeps heating when the power is out. Seven Vignette faceplates finish it, from clean black to arched.

Possible Downsides

• Fire media is chosen separately, so pick your crystals, beads, stones, or logs when you order.
• Black enamel is the only interior; brick panels are not offered on this model.

If you want a small fireplace to match the modern room around it, the Horizon HRi3 is the right decision. The fireplace becomes the most current thing in the room instead of the oldest.
