A compact wood insert that turns an open masonry fireplace into a real heater.
Quick Facts
- Heating Capacity: Up to 1,300 sq ft (Stûv's stated heating area).
- Efficiency: 67.6% (Stûv technical sheet)
- Maximum Log Size: 20"
- Fuel: Wood.
- Controls: None to set: single burn rate.
Who It's For
An open masonry fireplace looks inviting and sends most of its heat up the chimney. You want the wood fire to warm the room instead. The Stûv 6-in 76x55 is for the homeowner with a smaller room and an existing masonry hearth who wants a wood fire that actually heats. Leave the opening as it is and you keep paying for heat that goes outside.
What Makes It Special
Stûv built the 6-in for heating power adapted to the smallest spaces, and says it fits all masonry hearths. It is also a single burn rate wood heater: there is no air damper to set, so all you do is light the logs and enjoy the fire.
The combustion air inlet calibrates automatically, the fire is easy to light, and it produces little ash, so the daily routine is short. Air heated in the convection circuit around the firebox flows back into the room on its own.
Possible Downsides
- A finishing frame is required and sold separately. Choose a thin-edge or picture-type frame.
- The door stays closed while it burns. Stûv says to open it only to reload.
- Not for mobile homes. The manual rules out mobile home installation.
If you want your masonry fireplace to heat a smaller room with wood, the Stûv 6-in 76x55 is the right decision. The room warms up from the fireplace that used to just sit there.
Choose a thin-edge or 2", 4", or 6" picture-type finishing frame in matte black, plus the outside air intake kit and air damper.

What's included in the online estimate?
The unit with the options you selected, a real vent kit matched to your venting, and the installation labor for a typical setup. Your free one-to-two-hour in-home visit confirms every detail before anything is ordered.
Who pulls the permit?
We do, on every job, in every jurisdiction we serve—and we meet the inspector. It's built into the process, not an upsell.
Can you see the Stûv 6-in - 76x55 in a photo of your own room?
Yes. The Visualizer tab on this page renders the Stûv 6-in - 76x55 into a straight-on photo of your wall, scaled to the room, so you see it in your space before you price a thing. Phone photos are fine. It's a faithful preview, not an architectural drawing; sizing, venting, and trim get confirmed at the free in-home visit.
Is the online estimate real, or a rough guess?
Real, and honest about what it is: a price for the Stûv 6-in - 76x55 as configured, a fitting vent kit, and professional installation labor, built from real Seattle installs. It is not binding. The free one-to-two-hour in-home visit checks your actual house before the price is final, and nothing is ordered until then.
Do you install and service the Stûv 6-in - 76x55 yourselves?
Yes, both. Our own in-house installers set the Stûv 6-in - 76x55, run the venting and the gas, pull the permit, and light the first fire before leaving. Afterward the service desk looks after every unit that came from Sutter, with factory-trained technicians and a real date when you call.
