This is an example of a direct vent system used in a gas insert.
The direct vent system draws its combustion air from outside. This means that it is not pulling the heated air out of the room. All of our gas fireplaces, stoves, and inserts will work when the power is out. They run off of electricity generated by the appliances pilot light. A small device called a thermocouple or a thermopile is heated by the pilot flame and this generates the small amount of electricity that operates the fireplace.
